Biography
Amedeo Amoresano is Associate Professor of Energy and Environmental Systems. He carries out research mainly in the field of concentrated solar systems and biofuels. In the last few years he has been a partner in the INSHIP project (Integrating National Research Agendas on Solar Heat for Industrial Processes) within the Horizon 2020 research program. Currently responsible, for his University, in the EERA (European Energy Research Alliance) project of the Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) and Energy Efficiency in Industrial Processes Joint Programs. Associate member of the National Research Council (CNR) of the STEMS Institute.

Dean Sharafi is heading up the System Design and Transformation Group of the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO).Dean holds a degreein Applied Physics, a degree in Electrical Engineering and a degree in Business Management. He has around 30 years of experience in power system engineering which includes Power System Protection, High Voltage Systems, Asset Management and Power System and Electricity Market Operation. He is a member of Australian Institute of Management, Cigre,Engineers Australia and a senior member the IEEE. Dean has been actively involved with IEEE Power and Energy Society initiatives and Cigre Working Groups over the last decade andhas served as a member of the Governing Board of the IEEE PES from 2017 to 2022. Dean has published many papers on power system protection, condition monitoring, asset management and power system operations. He lecturedfor a decade as a Sessional Academic on Power System Earthing at Curtin University in Western Australia. Dean is also the author of his memoire “The Unwilling Revolutionary.â€

Abdeltif Amrane is a professor of Chemical and Environmental Engineering - Air and Water Treatment at Technological Institute of Rennes, France. Research Interests include within the "CIP" team, Physico-chemical and biological treatment processes, ENSCR.

The leading professional activities include academic teaching, applied research, strategic consulting, and institutional capacity building. The work focuses on the EU legal framework in Albania and the public policies related to industry and interest groups, international institutions and public authorities. The main activities have been focused on promoting issues related to sustainable growth in Albania as part of the EU integration process within the regional integration of the Western Balkan countries. Higher education is fully attended in Italy, France, Germany, etc. In continuation, he has worked as a researcher, professor, and trainer in various national and international environments and has been engaged as a legal advisor and consultant to foreign and local companies, public authorities, and international organizations. The activities have been accompanied by the publication of an extensive bibliography, mass-media appearances and participation as a key speaker in many international conferences on the legal and political framework of the EU in Albania, mainly in the energy policy, business field, public policies, etc.

Director of Energy Center at the University of Jordan. An associate professor at the Mechanical Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, University of Jordan, Amman-Jordan. A Ph.D. degree from the Institute of Fluid Mechanics, Friedrich Alexander Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, Erlangen-Germany in April 2001. M.Sc and B.Sc degrees with honor from Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Jordan. Having special interest in Fluid Mechanics, Turbulence Flow, Two-Phase Flow, MEMS, Micropumps, Energy, Energy Efficiency, Renewable Energy such as Solar Energy, Wind Energy and Biomass. Also, Dr. Al-Salaymeh has a good research in the area of Thermal flow Sensors (Patent registered in Germany), Flow-Measurement Techniques such as Hot-Wire Anemometer (HWA) and Laser-Doppler Anemometer (LDA), and Turbulence Phenomena. Having many papers in the international Journals and an active in participating in many scientific conferences. Currently, Dr. Al-Salaymeh is an assessor for Jordan Accreditation System (JAS). During the summers of 2002-2009, Dr. Al-Salaymeh was invited by the Institute of Fluid Mechanics, Friedrich Alexander Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, Germany, the Institute of Fluid Mechanics, Technische Universität Hamburg-Harburg, Germany, Institute for Microtechnology, Technical University of Braunschweig, Germany, Institute for Aerodynamic und Gasdynamic, University of Stuttgart, where scientific research in fluid mechanics and instrumentation was conducted. Currently, Dr. Al-Salaymeh is very active in the field of Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency and Water management. He participated in many national and international workshops in the field of the Solar Energy, Photovoltaic, Biomass and Bio fuel in addition to the water management.

Prof. Francesco Romagnoli graduated at the Polytechnic of Turin as an Environmental Engineer at the Dept. of Georesources and Geotechnology in 2001. He received his PhD from the Riga Technical University, Institute of Energy Systems and Environment in 2012 with the thesis: “Model for sustainable bioenergy production and useâ€. During the period 2002-2008 he worked as a Geotechnical and Tunnelling Project Engineer in the Italian design Rocksoil S.p.A. (Milan, Italy). Since 2020 he holds the position of full professor at the Institute of Energy Systems and Environment of the Riga Technical University, with a specialization in LCA and Eco-design. Prof. Romagnoli leads the course of LCA and Eco-design, applied geophysics method, adapting to climate change: Risk and Resilience, and he is contributing to other courses such biotechnology and renewable energy sources. The main research interests of Prof. Romagnoli are biogas (i.e., Biochemical Methane Potential tests, substrate characterization, pre-treatment processes, use of seaweeds and microalgae), LCA and System Dynamics modelling within techno-feasibility and sustainability evaluations of product and services, urban system resilience as the capability to recover after extreme stress conditions, with an emphasis on energy infrastructure systems. Since 2020 Prof. Romagnoli established a consultation group actively working on applying LCA to support eco-labelling by Environmental Product Declaration (EPDs) and Product Environmental Footprint (PEF). With the finalization of more than 15 EPDs and other LCA studies for private companies, he is one of Latvia’s most valuable LCA experts.Currently, Prof. Romagnoli is cooperating with the Italian companyTecne SPA, the engineering company of the Autostrade per l'Italia Group, to promote LCA approach within Tecnemanagement and infrastructural design. As head of the Biosystem Laboratory, the activities performed by prof. Romagnoli are more focused on: eco-design solution by implementing LCA approach for products and services, optimization of anaerobic digestion processes, upstream biomass pre-treatment methods, analysis of AD process parameters, evaluation of feasibility and identification of bottlenecks for industrial applications, microalgae as CO2 sink and interfaces for nutrient recirculation.

I joined IIT Kanpur in 1985 as an Assistant Professor and became a Professor in 1991. I joined Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in Brisbane, Australia, as a Research Capacity Building Professor in Power Engineering in May 2006. In December 2013, I moved to Curtin University in Perth, where I am a Research Academic Professor. My current research focus is Renewable Energy and Distributed Generation, Smart Green Grids and Power Electronics Applications to Power Systems. I am a Fellow of IEEE and Indian National Academy of Engineering, IEEE PES Distinguished Lecturer and IEEE PES Nari Hingorani Custom Power Award winner.

Research activity at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Lecce. Research activity for collaboration contracts with the Disteba. The research carried out mainly concerned energy problems, alternative energy sources, the impact of production cycles on the environment, waste management, the recovery of agricultural and industrial by-products and the quality of goods. Author of over 120 publications.

Maurizio Filippo Acciarri, is associate professor of Physics at UNIMIB. His research is mainly addressed to the study of photovoltaic cells and more generally to the physical aspects of energy efficiency and energy storage. In this area, he studied CO2 capture from industrial fumes and use. He is the coordinator of the GEM (Green Energy Management) Summer School and is president of the international network "SILKWAY - Energy, Connectivity, Environment, People" made up of universities, local and international stakeholders and other external partners from Europe and Central Asia. He participates to the Network for the Sustainable Development of Universities energy working group as a contact for UNIMIB for the energy sector and he is the coordinator of the Energy Committee of the Milano-Bicocca University. Since 2019 he has been a member of the Institutional Research Committee of the National Energy Cluster as a representative of physicists (Physics for energy).

Prof. Al-Khatib has experience in a wide range of areas including water recourses management and quality, renewable and sustainable energy, environmental assessment, wastewater management, advocacy, coordination and networking. Al-Khatib has an extended experience in the development and carrying research and evaluation projects, professional work experience in water resources management, environmental impact assessment, environmental monitoring, training and evaluation of medical waste, solid waste, waste to energy, climate change, water and sanitation and urban environment projects. He is an expert in social and environmental health, promoting environmental public awareness through training, organizing and conducting awareness campaigns and workshops in environmental education and health.
